8 Days Aberdare - Samburu - Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara Lodge Safaris

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrive at Nairobi International Airport where you are met and transferred to your hotel for overnight. The Jacaranda Hotel or equivalent. (B&B)

Day 2: Aberdare

Leave Nairobi in the morning passing through the town of Nyeri where Lord Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts movement, spent the last years of his life and is buried. After lunch at the Abrerdare Country Club, drive through the forest where varied species of game can be seen along the way to your tree hotel. Tonight, you will be able to watch game from your hotel balcony, which overlooks a floodlit waterhole. Overnight: The Mountain Lodge (BLD).

Day 3: Samburu

After breakfast, drive north to reach Samburu Game Reserve in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive introduces you to this beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy's zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge. (BLD)

Day 4: Samburu

Spend the day exploring the reserve and its varied species of game. Overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge (BLD)

Day 5: Lake Nakuru

Leave after breakfast and drive past the northern tip of the Aberdare Mountains to descend into the Great Rift Valley where Lake Nakuru is located. Visit the world famous bird sanctuary of Lake Nakuru National Park. Lunch and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. (BLD)

Days 6 & 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Driving across the Great Rift Valley, reach Kenya's most famous Game Reserve, Masai Mara, in time for lunch. Spend the days exploring the rolling hills and plains for a chance to spot black-maned lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, and buffalo along with varied species of hoofed animals. Overnight at the Sarova Mara Lodge. (BLD)

Day 8: Nairobi

After breakfast return to Nairobi where you arrive in time for lunch, which is served at the famous Carnivore Restaurant where all kinds of game meat can be tasted. Transfer to the airport afterwards to catch your outbound flight. In the event of a late evening flight, an optional day room can be reserved for you to relax and freshen up before you transfer to the airport. (BL)

Aberdare National Park

The Aberdare National Park, with an area of 767 Km2 covers the higher areas of the Aberdare Mountain Ranges of Central Kenya, from altitude of 1829M to 4001M above sea level. The topography is quite diverse with deep ravines that cut through the forested eastern and western slopes. Animals easily observed in the park include; the Black Rhino, leopard, baboon, black and white Colobus monkey and sykes monkey. Rarer sightings include those of lions, the golden cat and the bongo- an elusive forest antelope that lives in the bamboo forest. Animals like the eland and spotted and melanistic serval cats can be found higher up in the moorlands.

Visitors can also indulge in picnics, trout fishing in the rivers and camping in the moorlands. Bird viewing is rewarding, with over 250 species of birds in the park, including the Jackson's Francolin, sparry hawk, goshawks, eagles, sunbirds and plovers.

Samburu Game Reserve

Samburu a magical haven of beauty on Kenya's northern frontier home to an astonishing population of wildlife including several species unique to the region like the Reticulated Giraffe Grevy's Zebra Gerenuk and the blue legged Ostrich. The Reserve is also home to lion cheetah buffalo and look out for the shy leopard lying lazily on a tree. You will also see large herds of elephant making their way to the muddy waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the morning or on their way up to the hills in the evening.

Samburu offers vistas of rounded‚ rugged hills and undulating plains. The mix of wood and grassland with riverine forest and swamp home to a wide variety of birds. Samburu and its neighbouring Buffalo Springs has recorded over 400 species of birds. Game viewing is excellent all year round. At sunset‚ Doum palms form breathtaking silhouettes against the red and gold streaked sky.

Lake Nakuru National Park

The park lies in Central Kenya, 140km north-west of Nairobi, in Nakuru district of the Rift Valley Province. The ecosystem comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grasslands. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with Flamingos (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds being the major attractions of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white rhino and buffaloes and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

The Masai Mara is Kenya's most famous and most visited reserve it offers breathtaking views as seen in the film 'Out of Africa' with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford and an extraordinary density of animals including the "big five" lion elephant rhino leopard and buffalo.

The Masai Mara lies in the south west of Kenya it is also the celebrated site for Nature's annual spectacular the Great Migration. Between June and October the rolling plains of the Mara are flooded with over a million Wildebeest and hundreds of zebra and impala searching for fresh new grass after the rains.Their dramatic river crossings are a reality for visitors.
