10 Days Mount Kenya Climbing up Naromoru route Down Chogori route and meru - samburu camping safari
Day 1. Nairobi/Mt Kenya
Depart Nairobi in the morning arriving Naromoru in
time for lunch. After lunch you proceed to Mt Kenya
Youth Hostel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2. Met Station
After breakfast, proceed to Naromoru Park Gate and
start hiking to Met Station (3300m). The hiking takes
about 3 hrs. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3. Mackinders Camp
Depart Met Station after breakfast and proceed to
Teleki Valley arriving Mackinders Camp (4300m) early
evening. Picnic lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4. Austrian Camp
Depart after breakfast commence ascending along a
steep screw to Austrian Hut (4700m). Covering this
distance takes about 3 hrs. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5. Point Lenana-Chogoria
Departing at 5:30 am, proceed through Lewis
Glacier to Point Lenana (4985m) arriving approx. 6:30
am in the morning. After the sunrise, descend down to
Mintos Hut for full breakfast. Later descend along the
famous Gorges Valley to Chogoria campsite. Dinner and
overnight.
Day 6. Chogoria- Meru N/P
After breakfast, set on morning journey to
Chogoria (32km). Walk for 15 km to be met by a 4WD
safari van to Chogoria town for lunch. After lunch drive to Meru N/P arriving late afternoon. Evening game drive, dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Day 7. Meru N/P
Full day at this famous park with morning and evening game drive. The park was made famous by joy Adamson who reared an ophaned lioness and name it Elsa. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Day 8. Samburu
pre breakfast game drive then depart after breakfast and drive to samburu game reserve arriving in time for lunch. Relax after lunch and later do the evening game drive. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Day 9. Samburu
Early morning game drive, return to the campsite for breakfast, another morning game drive, return to the campsite for lunch. [An optional visit to a Samburu Village ] followed by an evening game drive, dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Day 10. Nairobi
Early morning breakfast followed by a game drive, depart and drive to Nairobi arriving late afternoon, lunch en - route.

Mount Kenya National Park
Mt. Kenya National Park is located to the east of the Great Rift Valley, about 175km North-East of Nairobi. The ecosystem lies in Central and Eastern provinces of Kenya. At 5,199m the mountain is the second highest peak in Africa. Mt. Kenya is an important water tower in the country. It provides water for about 50% of the country’s population and produces 70% of Kenya’s hydroelectric power.
UNESCO inscribed Mount Kenya as a World Heritage Site. It’s described as one of the most impressive landscapes in Eastern Africa with its rugged glacier-clad summits, Afro-alpine moorlands and diverse forests that illustrate outstanding ecological processes.
The attraction of Mount Kenya include impressive landscape, rugged glacier clad summit, afro alpine moorland, forests, wildlife and over 800 recorded plant species of which 81 species are endemic to the area. Mount Kenya is the only free standing mountain in the world with permanent glaciers.
Mount Kenya has three major climbing routes, this include Sirimon route, Chogoria route and Narumoru Route. Accommodation is inform of mountain huts, one can also camp around the mountain huts and use the mountain huts facilities.
Meru National Park
Meru National Park is a Kenyan Game park located east of Meru, 350 km from Nairobi. Covering an area of 870 km˛, it is one of the most famous known parks of Kenya. It has abundant rainfall, 635–762 mm in the west of the park and 305–356 mm in the east. The rainfall results in tall grass and lush swamps, which make it difficult to spot game. It has a wide range of wild beasts like elephant, hippopotamus, lion, leopard, cheetah, black rhinoceros and some rare antelopes.
Meru was one of the two areas in which conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness made famous in the best selling book and award winning movie Born Free. Elsa the Lioness is buried in this park and part of Joy's ashes were scattered on her gravesite. Joy Adamson released Pippa the cheetah in this park.
Samburu Game Reserve
Samburu a magical haven of beauty on Kenya's northern frontier home to an astonishing population of wildlife including several species unique to the region like the Reticulated Giraffe Grevy's Zebra Gerenuk and the blue legged Ostrich. The Reserve is also home to lion cheetah buffalo and look out for the shy leopard lying lazily on a tree. You will also see large herds of elephant making their way to the muddy waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the morning or on their way up to the hills in the evening.
Samburu offers vistas of rounded, rugged hills and undulating plains. The mix of wood and grassland with riverine forest and swamp home to a wide variety of birds. Samburu and its neighbouring Buffalo Springs has recorded over 400 species of birds. Game viewing is excellent all year round. At sunset, Doum palms form breathtaking silhouettes against the red and gold streaked sky.
